What is Sponsorship?

Homestay sponsorship is a program that enables you to directly support local homestay owners, their families, and entire communities — by giving them the chance to break out of poverty — forever changing their life and future.

What is a Homestay?

A Homestay can be defined as a form of hospitality and lodging whereby visitors share a residence with a local of the area (host) to which they are traveling. Basically, a Homestay is the home of a local family which can be inhabited by travelers.

How does Homestay Sponsorship Work?

Despite living in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, many families in Raja Ampat are living far below the poverty line. But you can help make a difference by sponsoring a homestay (a home of a local family). Due to their poverty, many of their homes are unsanitary and unfit as homestay destinations. When you support a homestay through sponsorship, you’re helping to ensure that the family receives a proper home and education for their children.

Established in 2007, we are Papua’s grassroots foundation on education, conservation and empowerment. We work to give indigenous communities a better life, the opportunity to learn and manage their abundant ecosystem. Thanks to our supporters, we are able to achieve our mission for Papua each year.

A personal welcome kit, including photos and information about your sponsored Homestay, their community and programs you’re supporting through sponsorship, opportunities for you to get more involved, how you can contact us and so much more!
Annual updates and ongoing communications highlighting the impact you’re making through sponsorship.
The joy of the knowledge that your support is driving change that will influence the lives of many local and indigenous families, their communities and their ecosystem.

How to Support a Homestay through Sponsorship

1. Choose one of the listed Homestays.

2. About 10 days after you sign up, you’ll receive a welcome kit to your email address. Your welcome letter will introduce you to the local family of the Homestay of your choice, including photos and more information about how your sponsorship impacts their entire community. 

3. Watch as your ongoing support enables the work that empowers true change in the lives of local families who are impacted by your generosity.

How much does it cost to join sponsorship?

Making a difference through sponsorship with Ecoducation Atap Langit costs just $1 a day. Just $30 a month is pooled with the donations of others and makes a powerful investment in people’s lives and futures!
