Updated: Sep 25, 2023

Doom Island is a small island that faces the city of Sorong. This island is home to Sorong’s most important historical heritage and also boasts beautiful sceneries. During the Dutch colonial period in 1953, the Dutch made this island the capital of the government of Sorong, they called it Onderafdeling. In the present day, Doom Island is faced with an environmental crisis due to its lack of a garbage disposal system. Litter is disposed of through open burning and dumping into the ocean or other nearby islands.

While some of the residents are aware of the dangers of their method of disposing waste, they are forced to do so due to a lack of alternatives. By exposing this harsh reality to the outside world, we will be able to better educate and empower the people of Doom to overcome their environmental crisis.
